All about Monticello

Monticello, named for the estate of Thomas Jefferson, was built by brothers Samuel and John Jones in the early 19th century as they took advantage of the coming Newburgh and Cochecton Turnpike connecting the Delaware and Hudson Rivers. They carefully surveyed and planned the community to have wide streets, a central park with a public square and shade trees.

The Monticello Raceway standardbred harness racing track attracted racing fans from around the Northeast.

Today, new kinds of tourism and entertainment venues are here: Resorts World Catskills casino and the Kartrite Resort and Indoor Water Park. Monticello Raceway, which for several years operated a racino with slots and other gaming, is back as an exclusively racing venue with afternoon racing four to five days a week all year round.
